History
Junagarh State was consisting of 999 villages. It was landlocked from three sides but on south western side having 84 km of coastline which was distinguishing the state from other more than 500 states of undivided Sub Continent. Junagarh was ruled by Babis since 1784 till 1947 and Nawabs of Junagarh State were so kind to their countrymen. The state was highly appreciated for its prosperity and welfare orientation to its citizens. The one day expense of the state was equivalent to 40kgs of gold. The public relation was the key of success of Nawabs of Junagarh and that was the reason behind the visit of Nawab Mahabat Khanji III to Una on November 22, 1928. He also offered Fatiha on the shrine of Hazrat Peer and put flowers on the grave which was weighed by silver thereafter and the same worth of amount (which was Rs. 7,000/-) was given for the wellbeing of the unprivileged of Una by Nawab Sahab himself. On the occasion, he also had a darbar which was addressed by the notables of Una like Cawasshah Eddelji Gogawala (one of the leading industrialist of Una). In his formal speech Nawab Sahab had announced various new welfare schemes including a railway station in Una and Delwada which are still serving today. His visit was prompted Una as an important city of Junagarh. Una had a fortress around the city and had big doors in different directions which highlighted its strategic importance. The Shrine of Hazrat Peer was situated beside the wall of the fort of Una. The fort is vanished today but Hazrat Peer’s Darghah is spreading its blessing to all visitors without segregation of religion. The other famous shrines in Una Mahal are Sayyedshah Baba Qadri (Bade peer) Dargah & Chopan Peer Dargah are also famous. There are 3 other dargahs in Jame Masjid – Vali Peer, Miyan Abdullah shah & Miyan Rajwali Naqshbandi. Dargah of Abdul Hameed Baba & Badshah Miya Baba Naqshbandi. In Delwada a village near Una, Jhulta Minara Masjid is a work of architecture which is worth to be seen. Jhulta Minarets remains as a mystery to the most elite technocrats of modern era. These minarets move back and forth if one imparts a slight push on the top most arch of the minarets. Hence it got the name Jhulta Minarets, which means swaying towers. The height of minarets is 100 fts. It is a copy in technical term of the Jhulta Minarets of 571 years old Siddi Bashir Masjid of Ahmedabad which are 200ft in height. Dargah of Sulaiman Shah Baba in Jame masjid which are also famous.
Today’s Una

Daily bus services available for Mumbai by state-owned transport corporations and private bus operators. Road is very very bad from Una to Rajula. Good transportation service is available for Diu, as it is one of the famous & popular tourist places. Una is also connected with Veraval & Junagadh by train service.
Due to its beauty and cleanliness Una is noteworthy city of the Junagadh District. Possessing lush green planes and trees makes this small city a pearl of Junagadh. The fertile land in suburbs of the city grows tons of vegetables and grains and contributes a lot in Indian national exchequer.

Activities
Hide & Skin Collection
In the remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim Khalil ul Allah Alaihe Salam‘s sacrifice, every year Muslims around the globe made sacrifices in the month of Zilhaja the last month of Hijra calendar. Sharia has restricted to give the income from Hide & Skin of these animals to the deprived segment of Muslim society.
Every year our devoted volunteers collect Hide & Skin from our honorable members on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. We appreciate their efforts and we pay homage to our valued members for their contributions in this regard. It helps us to curb the lake of funds in uplifting the needy fragment of our community.
Graveyard Services
This world is the field for hereafter. A human being who comes in this mortal world has to go back where he belongs to. It is a right of a faithful to get place to bury. Realizing the needs of a graveyard, where our beloved ones can get eternal rest, in the year 1983, a huge piece of land was acquired in Mewa Shah Graveyard, Karachi with the help of our esteemed donors. This graveyard is serving the community till now. Another separate small piece of land was acquired in the same vicinity which is now completely filled. These graveyards are well managed and we appreciate the determinations of our Graveyard Committee in this respect.
All Pakistan Memon Federation (APMF) got a plot of several acres in Gulzar-e-Hijri for Memon Graveyard from Malir Cantonment Board with the help of Mr. Younus Dagha then Deputy Commissioner of Malir District. Being a member of APMF, we were offered to get almost half acre land in the same and Al Hamdu lillah, the payments are made. This is also a very well kept graveyard. This will be utilized when need arises.
Zakat Collection
Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam and it is must for every faithful to give Zakat who is Sahib-e-Nisab. For Distribution of Zakat, a faithful must see for the deserving ones amongst his relatives first then neighbors then the other Muslims.
Al Humdu Lillah most of our honorable members of the community are Sahib-e-Nisab. They give Zakat to Una Mahal Memon Jamat for onward distribution to the needy families of our Community.
These funds are used in following ways
Monthly financial assistance
Under this segment, financial help is provided to those who are eligible of Zakat. The amount is not so much but with the limited resource we try our level best to release the burdened members of our community. In this regard, we appreciate the efforts of Dr. Shehnaz Amin and her husband Dr. Amin A. Karim.
Education Aid
Under this segment, schools, college and university fees are provided to the deprived students. The ideology behind that is that to uplift the needy to get education. This is the only way were todays taker could be transformed in tomorrow’s giver.
Marriage Aid
All classes of the society are heart by today’s inflation. To marry a child specially a daughter is become a huge burden for the parents. To give some relief to the less privileged class, UMMJ provides Marriage Aid. Again the amount is not so huge, but we play our part under our limited resources.
We also assist our members to approach APMF to get aid in this regard under APMF Marriage Aid program. We are very much thankful to APMF for the same.
Medical Aid
To get a quality medical treatment is become so expensive now days. Through the platform of Zainab Suleman Clinic, we provide basic medical treatments to the whole vicinity of Lyari to the Zakat eligible people in general as well as our members.
For treatments of fatal diseases, special financial helps can be provided to deprived members.
Business Aid
Working on the methodology to uplift the destitute and we provide funds to establish small businesses.
Social Disputes Resolution
Human is a social animal. Without a society humans cannot survive. Promotion of peace, brotherhood and harmony are the key objectives of formation of UMMJ between members and other communities. UMMJ always try religiously to resolve member to members as well as member to other community members’ disputes. In this regard UMMJ has a Social Disputes Resolution Committee which is actively serving the community since its commencement.
Cases like marital disputes, divorce, inter family disputes etc are addressed by this committee. Al Hamdu Lillah UMMJ have done a very noble job and so many marriages are safe to be broken because of the in time negotiations between the parties. UMMJs’ doors are open for members as well as other community members for resolution of any dispute.
